Paint doesn't care about calendar seasons — it cares about temperature, humidity, and the 48-hour weather window after application. In the Lowcountry, that translates to a clear best-windows-of-the-year map. Here's when to schedule your exterior work.
The ideal conditions
Temperature 55–85°F; humidity under 85%; no rain in the 24 hours before or 48 hours after; low wind (under 15 mph for spray work).
Spring: March–May
Prime exterior season. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, lower humidity than summer. The tradeoff: pollen. April is peak pollen in the Lowcountry and pine pollen will bond into fresh paint if you're not careful.
Summer: June–August
Possible but challenging. Afternoon humidity spikes slow cure times. Afternoon thunderstorms compress the safe-to-paint window to mornings only. Most pros start at dawn and stop at 1pm in July.
Fall: September–November
The other prime window. Lower humidity, stable temps, no pollen, no afternoon storms. Our calendar books out fastest for this window.
Winter: December–February
Interior is fine year-round. Exterior possible on warm days — we need surface temp 50°F+ and no rain, which happens plenty but is less predictable.
Pollen season reality
Don't paint in April unless you're prepared to clean pollen off freshly painted surfaces daily. The safer bet is to schedule March (before heavy pollen) or May (after).
Scheduling tips
Book spring exterior work in January. Book fall exterior work in July. Our calendar for those windows fills 2–4 months out.
Questions we get about this
Can you paint year-round?
Interior yes. Exterior effectively yes but we work around weather, so winter and summer jobs may stretch 1–2 extra weeks on schedule.
What if a spring storm hits mid-job?
We protect fresh paint with temporary covers, stop work, and resume when the 48-hour window clears.
Does cold weather affect paint quality?
Below 50°F, cure slows enough that the film doesn't form properly. We don't apply exterior paint below that threshold.
